Developing Outstanding Teaching
This new four-day course is aimed at teachers who are already delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, have a strong commitment to Teaching and Learning and wish to further develop and enhance their practice. They will have a commitment to professional development and the ability to reflect on their own practice. Teachers who would benefit may already be involved in coaching or have the potential to take on a coaching role to help raise the quality of teaching and learning in their schools.
Designed by CTSN and facilitated by experienced school leaders and teachers, the Developing Outstanding Teacher programme gives good and outstanding teachers a set of high level skills and strategies that will enable them to become consistently outstanding. The course will provide opportunities to explore a range of pedagogical approaches and also provide delegates with the ability to coach colleagues in their own school to help raise performance levels.
During the course, delegates will be given structured opportunities to reflect on teaching approaches and their quality and impact. It will also introduce and consolidate new knowledge and skills and focus on what makes teaching and learning outstanding through a series of lesson observations aimed at encouraging participants to reflect on what makes effective teaching and learning and how this can be applied to their own practice. The course will also introduce coaching skills which will be invaluable in helping to disseminate that good practice back in school. A series of gap tasks will help consolidate knowledge and give colleagues opportunities to innovate by trying out new strategies and techniques in the classroom and then reflect on the impact on learning.
